General Appearance

Buglossoides tenuiflora (L.f.) I.M.Johnst., it is an annual herb, stem 5-30(-50) cm, with 1 to many branches, with appressed hispid setulose hairs. Cauline leaves oblong, oblong-linear or oblong-lanceolate, usually with a broad sessile base, 15-40 x (2-) 3-8 mm with obtuse apex. Cymes up to 80 (-120) mm in fruit, usually paired or sometimes 3 together. Flowers bracteates, Bracts foliaceous; pedicel 1-2 mm long, slightly thickened and increasing after fruiting. Calyx 3-4 mm long, lobes linear-lanceolate, covered with yellowish spreading hairs, up to 10 mm long in fruit, with indurate base. Corolla 5-0 mm, bluish or white with c. 1.5-2 mm broad limb, tube narrowly cylindrical, band of hairs in the throat smaller than the Buglossoides arvensis (L.) I.M.Johnst., Nutlets c. 2 mm erect, urceolate in outline, distinctly 2-gibbous laterally on the back, abruptly ending in a beak, tuberculate or scorbiculate with a fragile pericarp.
