General Appearance

Buglossoides arvensis (L.) I.M.Johnst., it is an annual herb, up to 3-60 (-90) cm tall with one or many stems, covered with appressed setulose hispid hairs. Lower leaves oblong or spathulate, attenuate or ending in a petiole, obtuse. Cauline leaves oblong to linear, acute or subacute, sessile, 20-40 x 2-5 (-6) mm. Cymes solitary or paired. Calyx lobes linear or linear lanceolate, unequal, 3-4 mm long, increasing up to 10 mm in fruit, covered with white appressed to somewhat patent hairs with a ± clavate thickened pedicel and an oblique receptacle. Corolla 4-6.5 mm long, white, purplish or blue, with 3-4 mm broad limb, lobes rounded. Stamens inserted below the middle of the tube. Stigma distinctly bifid. Nutlets brownish hard, tuberculate, 2.5-3 x 1.5-2 mm beaked, flattened on dorsal side, keeled on ventral side.
