General Appearance

Sonchus bulbosus (L.) N.Kilian & Greuter ̸ Homotypic Synonyms: Aetheorhiza bulbosa (L.) Cass.,  it is a tuberous geophyte, perennial rootstock offering long fibers ending in tubers, reaching and even exceeding the size of a hazelnut, and emitting slender, elongated stolons; simple and single-headed scape of 10-20 cm, erect, glabrous, glandular at the apex. Leaves all radical, glabrous, petiolate, oblong-lanceolate, entire or toothed. Involucre with imbricate, lanceolate bracts. Flowers yellow. Achenes equaling about half the size of the pappus.
