Family: Asteraceae

General Appearance

Scorzonera laciniata L. / Homotypic Synonyms: Podospermum laciniatum (L.) DC., it is an annual or biennial herbaceous species that can occasionally behave as a short-lived monocarpic perennial. It has a thickened taproot, and under damp, shady conditions, its aerial parts can grow quite extensively. The inflorescence is a solitary head; the involucre has 3–4 rows of bracts, the outer ones with a small (corniculate) appendage immediately below the apex. The ligules are yellow and approximately the same size as the bracts. The achenes are prolonged into a podocarp, 9–11.2 mm long, longitudinally striated, glabrous, and very pale gray. The pappus is plumose, up to 17.2 mm long, and glossy white.
