Rhagadiolus stellatus (L.) Gaertn
General Appearance
Rhagadiolus stellatus (L.) Gaertn., it is an annual herb, up to (5-) 7-35 (-50) cm, ascending, branched, pubescent to sparsely hairy or glabrescent, herbaceous or somewhat woody annual. Basal and lower cauline leaves 25-140 x 10-70 mm, oblong-ovate, coarsely dentate, lyrate or pinnatilobed. Upper cauline leaves much smaller, sub entire, narrowly lanceolate. Involucre 5-8 x 2.5-3.5 mm at anthesis, enlarging in fruit. Outer involucral bracts 5, very small, ovate, scarious. Inner involucral bracts 5-8, narrowly linear-lanceolate, nearly herbaceous, glabrous often with a median row of small, setulose hairs or hispid-pubescent throughout. Outer cypselas 10-15 x 1-1.5 mm, weakly curved in, forming a characteristic radiating infructescence. Inner cypselas strongly incurved, glabrous or pubescent. Pappus absent.
