General Appearance

Reichardia picroides (L.) Roth, it is a perennial, green, glabrous. Stems 10-45 cm, usually much branched. Leaves smooth or very sparsely white papillate. Basal leaves 20-130 x 5-25 mm, linear to oblong-spathulate or oblanceolate, obtuse to acute, entire to pinnatisect with patent lobes, long attenuate at base into a winged petiole, margins entire to sparsely dentate or minutely denticulate. Cauline leaves ovate to oblong, sessile, amplexicaule, denticulate. The upper cauline leaves progressively smaller upwards and ± entire. Capitula 1-5, 15-25 mm broad. Peduncles long with numerous small, ovate, acuminate, narrowly scarious margined bracts, thickened below the capitulum. Involucre 10-20 x 8-14 mm, glabrous. Outer most involucral bracts 3-5 x 1.5-2.5 mm, triangular to ovate, acute, with up to 0.5 mm wide, white searious margins; apices with short, dark coloured, keeled appendages. Inner involucral bracts lanceolate, attenuate, obtuse to acute, with narrow, scarious margins. Ligules yellow, paler at outer surface; the outer usually with a dark strip at outer face, 1̸2-2 times as long as the involucral. Cypselas 2-3 (-4) mm; the outer 4 (-5) angled. transversely rugose, oblong; inner smooth, thinner appearing sterile.
