General Appearance
Phagnalon rupestre (L.) DC., it is a subshrub, stems up to15-30(-50) cm. erect or decumbent, branched, white or dirty white lanate, densely leafy. Leaves 10-35 (-40) x2-4 mm, oblanceolate or obovate, acute or acuminate, attenuate at base. glabrescent to greyish arachnoid above and white lanate below, sinuate, erose or sparsely minutely toothed, revolute. Peduncles terminal or axillary, (25-) 40-50 (-60) mm. whitish tomentose to glabrescent. Involucral bracts 7-8 rowed, erect, appressed glabrous. Involucral bracts of 1st. row (on peduncle) 1 x .75 mm. triangular, flat, acute, margin broadly scarious, irregularly toothed. Involucral bracts of 2nd row 1.25 x0.75 mm. oblong-ovate, flat, obtuse, margin broadly scarious and irregularly toothed. Involucral bracts of 3rd row 2 x 1 mm. oblong, weakly curved in, obtuse-mucronate, margins broadly scarious, toothed. Involucral bracts of 4th & 5tb row 3,5-5 x 1.25 mm, oblong, weakly curved in, acuto-mucronate to obtuse, margins, broadly scarious, toothed. Involucrar bracts of 6th, 7th & 8th row 5.25-9 x 1.5-1 mm, oblong to linear-oblong or linear lanceolate, acute-acuminate, margins broadly scarious, minutely serrulate near the apex. Peripheral florets female, corolla 6 mm, tubular-filiform, 4-5 lobed; lobe 0.5 mm, acute; pappus setae 8,6 mm long, scabrid. Central florets hermaphrodite; corolla 6-8 mm. tubular-campanulate, 5 lobed; lobes 1 mm. reflexed, acute; pappus setae 8, 6 mm long, scabrid. Cypscla 1 mm. pubescent.
