General Appearance

Pallenis cyrenaica Alavi, it is a perennial, suffruticose villous, main stem abbreviate ventricose or pulvinate, lateral branches 5-20 (-30) cm long ascending or prostrate, scabrous or pale ending in a capitulum. Basal leaves 5-7 (-8) x 1.5-1.7 cm, oblong-obovate or broadly lanceolate, acute-apiculate, broadly petiolate at the base. Cauline leaves 1.5-2.5 (-3) x 0.3·0.7 cm lanceolate, sessile, acute-acuminate or slightly spiny at the base. Peduncles (05-) 1-4 cm long. Capitula (0.7.) 1-1.5 cm in diameter (including ray flowers), yellow, Involucre 2.5-4 (-5) cm in diameter. outer phyllaries 4-5, 15-16 (-35) mm long (base 3 (-5) x 1.5 (-3) mm long leathery (including cetrum herbaceous-foliaceous), 1-1.5 mm wide tricostate, median costa very spiny; intermediate phyllaries 8-10 (-16) mm long (base 2-3.5 x 0.7-1.5 (-3) mm long leathery ( including cetrum herbaceous-foliaceous), three-nerved, acutely spiny; inner phyllaries 4-6 (-10) x 2·25 mm ovate whole leathery or herbaceous single-nerved shortly hirsute, adaxial pogona aristo-acuminate or slightly spines dark-dark spotted below spiny. Paleae 5.5 x 1mm oblong glabrous single-nerved, nerve crested sub-apical. Flowers radii biseriales. Corolla (4.) 5-7 mm long, with a tube 1-1.5 mm long at the base, enclosed in a winged lateral triangle. Legules 4.5-5 x 2 mm oblong, with adaxillary nerves in the lower half papillary. Ovary 2.5 (-3.2) mm long. Corolla disc-shaped flowers 3.25 mm long, lobes apiculate, 0.5-0.75 mm long, ovary 2 mm long.
