General Appearance

Ifloga spicata (Forssk.) Sch.Bip. // Infraspecifics: Ifloga spicata ssp. labillardierei (Pamp.) Chrtek , it is an annual herb, Stems 3-12 cm, with rigid, procumbent or ascending branches. Leaves (3-) 8-14 (-20) x (0.75-) 1-1.5 mm, filiform-linear, those subtending the cluster of capitula 6-7, (3-) 4-5 x 0.5-1 mm, narrowly oblong, with margins enrolled. adaxial face whitish or greenish lanate. Capitula (2-) 3 in a cluster; central one 4 mm long, 1.5 mm in diameter, cylindrical; lateral capitulum (2-) 3-3.25 mm long, 1.25 mm in diameter. Involucral bracts 4-5 rowed, straw coloured. Involucral bracts of 1st. row 3-3.5 x 1-1.25 mm, ovate, sharply acuminate, strongly carinate at the back. Fertile. Involucral bracts of 2nd. row 3.5-3.75 x 1-1.25 mm, ovate, acuminate, carinate at the back, fertile. Involucral bracts of 3rd. 41h & 5th row 3-3.75 x 1-1.25 mm, ovate, acuminate to sharply acute, strongly concave, but not carinate, fertile. Female florets, corolla 2.25-2.5 mm, filiform; ovary 0.5 mm long, epappose. Hermaphrodite florets c. 18; corolla 1.4-1.75 mm long, 4-toothcd; ovary 0.5 mm long, setae of the pappus 4-5, as long as the corolla. Cypselas O.8 x 0.3 mm, ovoid, slightly compressed, brownish-green to olive-green.
