Glebionis coronaria (L.) Cass. ex Spach
General Appearance
Glebionis coronaria (L.) Cass. ex Spach / Homotypic Synonyms: Chrysanthemum coronarium L., it is a glabrous or slightly hairy (3.5-) 20-70 (-80) cm tall annual herb. Basal leaves oblong-obovate, ± entire, with apex trifid; cauline leaves (50-) 80-100 mm long, 2(-3)-pinnatisect. terminal lobe largest; lobes acute, oblong or lanceolate, incised dentate or entire; upper cauline leaves smaller, obovate, becoming 1-pinnatisect, Involucre 15-20 mm in diam. Outer involucral bracts 3-3.5 mm long, ovate with a brownish marginal band and narrow scarious margin. Inner involucral bracts (3.5-) 4-9.5 mm long, with wide scarious margin and rounded scarious apical appendage. Ligule 12-15, deep yellow, lemon yellow, cream, or white with yellow base, 8.5-9 mm long, oblong; basal tube 3.4-3.8 mm long. Disc floret’s corulla 4.5-5.2 mm long. Cypsela dark-brown, punctate-glandular; cypselas of the ligulae floret 3 mm long, wedge-shaped; abaxial face slightly convex, 2-ribbed; ribs prominent and strong; lateral faces shallowly concave, 1-ribbed; adaxial angle and two lateral angles winged; adaxial wing strongest,1.5 mm wide; cypsela of the tubular florets 2.5-3.7 mm long, somewhat laterally compressed, angular, winged; the adaxial wing strongest, adaxial and abaxial ribs strongest, prominent; lateral ribs (2-) 3 (-4), thick, whitish; sometimes the center most cypselas ± terete cylindrical, and without wings.
