General Appearance

Dittrichia viscosa (L.) Greuter / Infraspecifics: Dittrichia viscosa ssp. viscosa, it is a shrub up to 50-60 cm high, hairy pubescent, glandulose, much branched, camphor smelling, ascending. Leaves 10-50 x 2-5 mm, linear-oblong or linear-oblanceolate, acute, entire or sparsely minutely denticulate, revolute when young, hairy, glandulose; hairs with persistent, inflatted bases; glands ± sessile, shining, dense, interspersed between the hairs. Floral branches 8-15 mm long. Involucre 6-8 mm long and 7-10 mm in diam., broadly obconical. Involucral bracts 6 rowed, erecto-patent in fruit. 1st row of involucral bracts 1.5 x 1.75 x 0.5 mm, ovate-oblong, herbaceous with ± fleshy, obtuse tip, margins narrowly scarious, hairy; hairs glandular tipped; glands globular. Involucral bracts of 2nd row 2.75 x 0.75 mm, oblong, obtuse, herbaceous, with rather broader scarious margins, hairy; hairs glandular. Involucral bracts of 3td row 3.75 x 0.75 mm, similar to the involucral bract of the 2nd row. Involucral bracts of 4th row 4 x 1 mm, oblanceolate, acutish-obtuse; mid-nerve herbaceous, rest scarious, glandular hairy on the mid-rib and near the apex, margins minutely ciliate. Involucral bracts of 5th row 5.5 x 1 mm, oblong-linear, acuto-obtuse, scarious except the base and tip, margins ciliate. Ray florets c. 10, ligules 6-8 (-12) x 0.75-1 mm. Disc florets c. 8-10, corolla 5.5-6.5 mm. Cypsela c. 1.5 mm, sparsely hairy, pubescent and glandular, pappus setae c. 20,5.5-6.5 mm long, brownish, scabrid.
