General Appearance

Carlina involucrata Poir., it is a perennial plants caulescent, up to 30-70 cm, sparsely branched or simple, with or without a few basal leaves. Leaves coriaceous, hairy, spiny. Lower cauline leaves oblong-lanceolate, pinnatisect nearly up to the midrib with narrow lobes. Median & upper cauline leaves lanceolate to oblong elliptic; lobes with stout spines. Capitula 30-60 mm in diam., obconical to broadly obconical. Outer involucral bracts lanceolate, with conspicuous clavate-thickened bases, pectinato-spinescent. Inner involucral bracts radiating, yellow or sometimes purplish above, up to 2 mm broad, glabrous or ciliate at the bases. Florets yellow.
