General Appearance
Ornithogalum umbellatum L., it is a bulbous geophyte, Bulbs ovoid to sub globular-ovoid, 1-3 cm across, tunics membranous, whitish to brownish in colour. Leaves 6-9 per plant, glabrous, linear, acuminate, 15-35 x 0.4-0.8 (-1) cm, longer than the scape, sometimes white banded on dorsal surface. Scape 10-30 cm long, corymbosely 6-20 (-30)-flowered. Pedicels bracteate spreading, lower pedicels mush longer than the top ones, up to 10 cm long. Bracts lanceolate, acuminate, 2-6 cm long. Perianth ± stellate. Tepals oblong to linear-oblong, obtuse, c. 2.5 x 0.8 cm, whitish inside, greenish with narrow whitish margins. Stamens 1-1.5 cm long; filaments whitish, flat-lanceolate. Anthers yellow. Ovary ± obovoid; style shorter than to equalling the stamens; stigma ± capitate. Capsules oblong-ovoid, 6-ribbed, ribs usually in pairs. Seeds numerous, ± ovoid with black testa.
